Lines of Sight was a site specific installation of work by the Artist Crystal Z Campbell. The show depicted Campbell’s response to Black Wall Street and the Tulsa Race Massacre. The jarring colors and exhibition soundtrack references the history and subsequent tumult of the tragedy. Working with the artist, I tried to let their work guide the design aspects of the show. Since the work was centered on events that transpired during the 1920s, I looked to Art Deco typefaces for inspiration to develop a custom typeface for the graphic identity.

This is a mockup of the exhibition exterior.

I extracted film stills from the artist’s files and enlarged them for the exhibition design. My goal was to make the exterior space immersive, as the artist’s interior was. The space contained a projection, 3 monitors, and 5 channel soundtrack. I also had to source and modify silk prints to hang in the gallery, per the artist’s instructions.
